Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), the OHS Coordinator is an essential role supporting both the COVID-19 Response Team and OHS. In this position you will be responsible for the management of Alcanna COVID-19 ticketwhile simultaneously supporting OHS with disability and claims management. Time dedicated to each function may fluctuate based on the number of COVID-19 cases. Ultimately, this role will lead to a focus of OHS support. 

 

Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

COVID-19 Case Management  

Supporting the Director, Culture & Engagement with COVID ticket management, the OHS Coordinator is responsible for managing employee COVID-19 situations from initiation through resolution.   

  • Initiate telephone communication with employees who report that they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, may have come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19received a positive COVID-19 test result and/or have recently travelled internationally. 
  • Obtain and document relevant, sometimes confidential, information, including underlying medical conditions and other risk factors. 
  • Participate in contact tracing and policy compliance investigations to bring COVID-19 tickets to resolution.  Elevate complex situations to other team members for further guidance. 
  • Provide approved guidance and resources on symptoms, testing, isolation/quarantine and other applicable topics. 
  • Conduct check ins and participate in follow-up interviews with the goal of safely returning employees to work. 
  • Actively participate in regular communication around relevant health and government guidance updates. 

 

OHS Coordination 

The OHS Coordinator is primarily responsible for supporting the team with full cycle management of disability claims such as medical leaves, long term disability and WCB claims. Outside of these core responsibilities, you will also support in policy and program developmentdata entry and assisting with ad hoc projects as needed. 

  • Be the first point of contact for employees injured at work – booking medical appointments and coordinating return to work planning.  
  • Responsible for the proactive management of assigned disability claims such as medical leaves, long term disability and WCB claims. This may include, but is not limited to:  
  • Following up with employees on a regular basis. 
  • Preparing modified work arrangements. 
  • Submitting confidential documentation to third party providers 
  • Prepare safety communications, coordinate trainingand manage the OHS email inbox.   
  • Participate in health and safety committee meetings 
  • Other administrative tasks as needed such as filing, scanning, tracking and ad hoc reporting.  
  • Promote a positive safety culture and develop trusted relationships with employees, managers and leadership 

 

Experience and Qualifications  

  • High school diploma required at a minimum, post-secondary education in OHS or HR is an asset. 
  • Minimum, 1-3 years’ experience with OHS and HR processes and data entry is desired. 
  • Experience with worker’s compensation claims management is an asset. 
  • Familiarity with OHS and Workers Compensation legislation.  
  • Experience supporting a mid-sized company operating in multiple provinces is an asset. 
  • Must be able to pass a basic criminal record check. 
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to/from work.

  • Attention to customer service and willingness to support the team where needed, even if a request is outside of normal job duties on occasion.
